WILLIAM SILKPOPS & JAZZhttp://www.williamsilk.com The Silk voice comes from the West of Ireland. Mother and Grandmother were both choir leaders in their parish in Galway. Read more... William Silk was born in Dublin to Irish and English parents, and educated in Ireland, South Africa and UK. Africa was Silk’s first exposure to exotic cultures, people, African rhythm, and to Sun City. At boarding school in the UK, he was drawn to music and theatre, being selected at a precocious 12 to play the leading role in The Mikado. The stage-bug bit and Silk found his own skin, taking leading roles and major cameos in most school productions, while winning music competitions for piano. At 14, greatly saddened by the sudden death of mother, he escaped into music and drama, emerging years later as a graduate of Birmingham University with degree in English & Music, where his study of classical music taught him how music can express the light and the dark of the human soul. Silk then set out to explore the World, first venturing to Nepal as a volunteer, reveling in the local culture and language, then all over Asia, Europe and US. Then when he first came to Japan in 1996, he remembers discovering karaoke as a social novelty. In 1999, while working for a media company in London, Silk was persuaded to perform as the regular singer in the evenings at a high-class restaurant. While a media career took him out to Tokyo, he started develop the "Silk Voice" and hone his talent, until around 2003 when William Silk began to emerge nightly on the live music scene as an accomplished big-band singer at large corporate black-tie balls, or as a lounge entertainer and romantic crooner, warming nostalgic couples on anniversary dates in high-end luxury hotels. Today, William Silk is Tokyo's consummate singing actor. He is a male vocalist with a personality that appeals internationally. He can jazz it up for the lads, get the whole room swinging, then bring it all down to one pin-spot with a moving ballad for a swoon from the girls. Fluent in Japanese, Silk is warmly welcomed by the Japanese people as someone who understands the "en" in a sense of occasion. |

Originally from Westfield, NJ (a New York City suburb), Patrick Glynn has performed in just about any musical situation imaginable. Beginning the trumpet at age 10, he moved his way down to the bass clef to play the tuba at age 13 and has been there ever since. The electric bass would follow soon after. It wasn’t until the late fall of 1994, after performing on tuba and electric bass in the Disneyland All-American College Band, that Pat discovered the double bass. That discovery changed his life. Two and-a-half years later, he would graduate from Northern Illinois University with a MM in Jazz Studies and Pedagogy on bass. His professional performing experience includes all styles of music but has remained tethered to jazz and Broadway for the last several years. As a tuba player, Pat was part of the world’s only full-time tuba quartet-The TubaFours-at the Walt Disneyworld resort in Orlando, Florida. The music scene in Orlando granted Pat the opportunity to rehearse and perform on both the bass and tuba with the legendary Sam Rivers. He also gained invaluable experience while freelancing as a substitute with Disneyworld’s different musical groups like The Disneyworld Orchestra (double bass), The Magic Kingdom Band (tuba), Tarzan Rocks! (electric bass), The Hollywood Hitmen (electric bass/tuba), and The FutureCorps (contra). After 2 years at “the mouse,” Pat was asked to go out on the road with the National Tour of Chicago: the Musical to perform on both the tuba and double bass. Other national tours include: Chicago (Taipei), Annie Get Your Gun, Saturday Night Fever, Fiddler on the Roof, and Tic-Tic-Boom (substitute). This experience led him to move back to the NYC area in 2002 to perform on Broadway. His NYC credits include Chitty-Chitty, Bang-Bang, Mother Courage (Shakespeare in the Park-NY Public Theater), Chicago: the Musical (substitute), Mary Poppins (substitute), and the Big Apple Circus (substitute). As a jazz musician, Pat has performed at clubs such as the Blue Note, Cleopatra’s Needle, and Smalls. As a commercial musician, he’s backed up acts including Bobby Vinton, Al Martino, and even the Icelandic rock band Sigur Ros at venues including Madison Square Garden, the Westbury Music Fair, Harrah’s Casino, and Resorts International. His diverse interests also led him to work with the group Davecorp (Dave Archer/Matt Hankle), with influences spanning from Jimi Hendrix to Top Jimmy. Recently, Pat bought an extra suitcase and a David Gage Czech-ease Travel Bass and moved to Tokyo. |
