Matsuri Azabujyuban

Matsuri Azabujuban is near. The event is set for the following dates; 22sd, 23rd & 24th of August. It is certainly one of the best Matsuri in Tokyo and our Petit Tonneau is in the heart of it. In collaboration with our favorite water Perrier, the elegant Laurent Perrier Champagne and the refreshing Premium Malts, we will entertain the masses at our booth located right in front of our restaurant. As for Lunch or Dinner in the restaurant, I strongly suggest for you to make a reservation quickly as seating is already limited.

Learn About Cheese at Le Petit Tonneau

Here are some links (via youtube) and courtesy of “Eclipse productions” on Philippe Thirouard (president of Bresse Bleu Japan) being interviewed at Le Petit Tonneau about the history, tradition and ethics of eating cheese. You might learn a thing or two! I know we all did after watching those. Enjoy!

What is your favorite dish...?

“Bonjour, I am French and I must say that this restaurant is even better than most of the restaurant I have ever been in Paris. The atmosphere is really authentic and the menu is great. I love the mussels there. They are medium sized, very fresh and drawn into a white wine broth with a touch of cream and fresh herbs. Just like in France. Being so far from my country, I am very happy to have found Le Petit Tonneau. I will be back there in no time. “

We’d like to announce that Kudanshita will be exceptionally open on Sunday the 30th of March. We will be happy to celebrate the becoming of spring over a nice glass of rose wine (or 2…or 3…).

Did You Know...?
(by Philippe Batton)

“Why do we offer Easter eggs?
Easter is a tradition that dates back to the ages. Egyptians and Romans alike were offering painted eggs at springtime as they were symbols of life and rebirth.
However, in the 4th Century, the Church passed a decree, forbidding eating eggs at Easter. All uneaten eggs were then painted, decorated and offered. Nowadays, the ban has been lifted and the tradition goes on, as people offer delicious Chocolate eggs.”

What is your favorite Dish...?

“I often go to Le Petit Tonneau in Azabujuban. I’ve noticed you have added La Saucisse de Toulouse back on the menu and that’s great news. They are simply delicious. I eat them with lots of Dijon mustard on the side. “

What is your favorite dish...?

"I often go to your Toranomon location for Lunch. I really love your lunch menus. The ¥1,600 menu is the one I always get.
It's fast, always consistent in quality and fun. It does seem everyone goes there. It's always busy. But they find ways to get me great seats. Also, there are many French waiters and they really help make me feel as in I was having Lunch in some of the busiest Bistros in Paris.
Fun, fun, fun! The menu gives me the option to choose a wonderful authentic French dessert for an extra ¥300, so I always indulge. There goes my diet, thanks Petit Tonneau." Tanaka Sayuri - Frequent customer @ Toranomon

We are now pouring a delicious white wine from Bandol. Chateau Vannieres which is the one very few AOC in that region. That wine is aromatic, elegant, full bodied and well balanced with soft apricot note. It pairs very well with dishes such as poultry, fish and goes hand in hand with cheese.
Ask your waiter about the latest selections in "la cave du chef" as you will always find there some nice treats.

Do you know ...? by Philippe Batton

"There are many versions explaining the origins of St Valentine. But the one I have chosen to share with you is the following one; The 14th of February of each year announces the start of birds mating as springtime approaches. A long time ago, single girls and boys were drawing the name of their Valentine out of a jar. In certain regions of France, the new chosen couples were married. In other regions, boys were to display the name of their valentine on their cuffs and to watch over her for the year. Whichever versions hold true, the most important is to care for the person we love."

The King's Cake "Galette des Rois"

The Galette des Rois is made of puff pastry and filled with frangipane, an almond-flavored paste. Hidden within the cake is a small lucky charm or “feve”. The person that gets the Feve in their slice becomes the King or Queen and is given a golden paper crown. The King or Queen then has to choose his Queen or her King, by dropping the lucky charm in their glass. It is a very popular tradition in France and an opportunity for families and friends to gather around the table.

It will once again be celebrated at all Petit Tonneau starting January 6th and we will be happy to crown many future Kings and Queens.

We will offer a glass of champagne to the king or queen who will find the Feve in the galette.

What is your favorite dish …?

"I am a meat eater, so for me the best dish there would be their Flank steak, otherwise called "Bavette" in France. They grill it to perfection and top it with sauted onions. They have a choice of three sauces. The first, which I had, was a delicious red wine sauce, but they can serve it with also a blue cheese sauce or a Japanese type of sauce with Sesame and a hint of Wasabi.
I will have to go back there to taste those as well. All the best of luck to you guys. I love your restaurant"

“Feeling adventurous like cooking some cauliflower at home despite the smell? Here is a tip I got from my grand ma to prevent your from reeking like cauliflower (pretty awful smell isn’t it?). All you need to do is place a piece of bread into the boiling water you use to cook your cauliflower. It’s that simple!!!
Or simply come to a Petit Tonneau nearest you and let us do all the work while you relax and enjoy.”

What is your favorite dish …?
“Steak Tartar … At first, I did not know it was raw meat. But I like to live dangerously. So I tried … and I thought it was truly delicious. I had a French waiter adding and preparing the whole dish at our table (looked like he knew what he was doing, entertaining us the whole step of the way). Tenderloin ground beef which they add an egg yolk, French pickles, capers, onions, parsley, salt & pepper, mustard & ketchup, steak sauce, Tabasco and even a drizzle of Cognac. He stirred the whole content gently and all I had to do (as the waiter explained to us) was to grab some French fries served alongside and to scoop some of the tartar with it …..ET voila!!! “
